Terrence Robinson Earns Multiple Titles at 2014 Youth Open West Region in Lakewood

ARLINGTON, Texas – Terrence Robinson of San Bernardino, Calif., won three titles and just missed a fourth title at the Bowling.com Youth Open West Region held this past weekend in Lakewood, Calif.

The Bowling.com Youth Open West Region, a non-qualifying tournament open to all United States Bowling Congress Youth members, was held at Cal Bowl and featured Under 8, Under 12, Under 15 and Under 20 divisions.

Robinson teamed with Parker Brooks of San Bernardino, T.J. Rock of Henderson, Nev., and Joshua Taylor of Fresno to win the U20 Team title with a 2,763 pinfall total. Robinson and Rock also took the U20 doubles title with a 1,303 total.

In U20 singles, Robinson shot a 692 to finish third, 10 pins behind winner Austin Wasielewski of Walnut, Calif., while last year’s West Region U20 Singles winner, Brooks, had a 693 series to finish second. Robinson’s performance gave him U20 All-Events honors with a 2,078 total.

Carly Phelps of Boise, Idaho, claimed the U20 Girls singles title with a 632 series. Other singles winners were: Sergio Axel Barajas Martinez of Calexico, Calif., and Rebecca Green of San Diego in U15; De Alani Fishbeck of Lawton, Okla., and David Jepsen of Stansbury Park, Utah, in U12; and Jacob Johns of Fletcher, Okla., and Saphyre Nofuente of Rocklin, Calif., in the U8 division.

In U15, singles champion Barajas Martinez teamed with Miguel Meraz and U15 Girls Doubles champions Alejandra Amezcua and Andrea Vanessa Vargas Campillo to win the U15 Team title with a 2,209 pinfall total. Tyler Pullman and Brennen Hudson of South Jordan, Utah, took the U15 Boys Doubles title.

Julio Barba, Alberto Bernal, Marco Flores and Trishelle Leal of Calexico, Calif., won the U12 Team title with a 1,943 total, while Bernal and Flores teamed to take the U12 Boys Doubles competition. Fishbeck and Viaja Fulner won the U12 Girls Doubles title.

Brooke Higa and Yu Sasaki of Wailuku, Hawaii, won the U20 Girls Doubles title while Nicholas Dorn of Chino, Calif., and Mateo Meza of Montclair, Calif., won the U8 Doubles division.

The Bowling.com Youth Open West Region, in its second year, was created so USBC Youth bowlers out west could have a major tournament option closer to home. Competitors bowled nine games total – three games each of singles, doubles and four-player team – with the combined scores from those events being the all-events score.
